How To Handle Urinary Incontinence

 

While urinary incontinence is largely viewed as a problem that affects older adults, the fact is that many people of all ages deal with this problem every day. In fact, many children who are treated as a chronic bed wetter and may actually suffer from a form of this issue.


Pregnancy and childbirth can cause various degrees of urinary incontinence in women. These are just a few of the many causes of urinary incontinence that may be contributing to your own issue.  Regardless of the cause, you want to know how to handle it. The good news is there are several different incontinence products you can use to help save yourself from embarrassing issues as well as causing damage to your furnishings.

 

Adult Diapers

When it comes to finding the right products to handle your own urinary incontinence issue, you undoubtedly thought about adult diapers. Many people shun this idea at first because of the negative connotation associated with the word “diapers.” While there are some forms of these incontinence products that offer full coverage, there are also others that are sized more closely to a maxi pad. The amount of coverage that you need will be determined by whether you have mild to moderate leakage.  You may be well suited to using the smaller versions of these products.  Many offer odor protection so you don't have to worry about embarrassment from leakage or odor.

 

Bed Pads

Bed pads are another choice to consider for your urinary incontinence. Many people will opt to sleep in an adult diaper overnight, but may place a bed pad down between the mattress and sheet for additional protection. This is generally a waterproof pad and may also have some odor protection element as well. When you leak urine at night, the bed pads provide a protective barrier for your bed and ultimately prevent it from getting soiled. The bed pad will need to be washed if urine gets on it.  Many people will opt to sleep in an adult diaper as well in order to avoid this extra chore each day.

 

Pads for Chairs

You may consider placing a smaller bed pad in your favorite chair or sofa.  This provides you with additional protection for those times when an adult diaper may leak.  They can prevent you from having to scrub your furnishings if urine gets on them. It may sometimes be impossible to clean certain furnishings.  These bed pads or chair pads can prevent you from having to hire a professional to come in a clean them or even worse having to throw out expensive furnishings and pay to replace them.

 

As you can see, there are quite a few incontinence products available to choose from.  These are products that can be used for just about anyone with a urinary incontinence issue. They help protect you from embarrassing leakage issues, and also safeguard your clothing and even furnishings from stains as well.  Many people will opt to utilize all of these products in their efforts to accommodate their leakage issues.
